The founder of The Long Island Jesters United Lacrosse Club.  Through passion and love of the game, Jerry continuously raises the bar for men's lacrosse throughout Long Island with a combination of high-level training paired with a carefully designed curriculum aimed towards inspiring and empowering athletes everywhere.  Jerry believes that a good coach changes lives - not just wins games. This belief has become the core of the club.  Jerry brings in Directors and Coaches who serve as remarkable role models, to surround our athletes with these principles.  He also oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations for the club.

Student-Athlete and Coach | Nassau (NY)

A two-year student-athlete at Nassau from 1979-80, George Powers and the Lions won an NJCAA Lacrosse National Championship in 1980. In 1982, Powers continued his playing career at Roanoke College (VA) where he was named USILA Third-Team All-American and was a North/South Game participant. 

Known widely for his coaching career, Powers was a successful assistant coach for 22 years and head coach for 6 years at Nassau, with nine recorded national championships, 120 All-Americans, 13 national tournament positional MVPs, and multiple NJCAA Player of the Year Awards. As head coach, he had an 82-16 record, 3 national runner-ups, 30 NJCAA All-Americans, and was a five-time NJCAA Region XV Coach of the Year recipient. Powers was also instrumental in the Massapequa High School (NY) Lacrosse State Championship in 2019. 

Powers has coached countless youth and high school lacrosse players on Long Island that have gone on to play at top four-year schools and in some cases, continued their lacrosse career professionally. Many of Powers’ former players are currently coaching at NCAA and NJCAA Division I, II, and III levels.

Steve Bentz has built and coached nationally ranked travel teams for the past ten years.  His philosophy is to train and gain knowledge of lacrosse at the highest level.  In order to compete and perform at an elite level, players need to train and practice at an elite level.

Manages day-to-day administrative and financial operations for the club.  Additionally responsible for all Social Media content including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  Oversees Uniform Fitting and Uniform Pick up, Camp Pontiac coordination, and team building and coordinates all custom uniform ordering along with all other club-related events and activities.  Maintains Club website and serves as parent liaison for any issues that arise.

Handles all tournament registrations on a team-by-team basis including local tournaments for our youngest players and out of state, US Lacrosse sanctioned tournaments, and showcases.  The tournament selection varies from year to year to expose our boys to a cross-section of boys lacrosse on both a regional and national level.

Karen also manages hotel group reservation blocks for all of our away tournaments.  The properties are chosen for their close proximity to playing fields and reasonable rates to suit all of our families.  Popular chains include Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn & Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, and Fairfield Inn & Suites.  Most bookings include free breakfast, free parking, and free WiFi.
